2 - Onboarding: Test Your Workflow
Testing is an important part of building. Before going live, test your workflows with different data to make sure your documents generate as you desire. Here's how to make testing easier:
Use Dummy Data
Download the Form Filler Chrome extension so you can fill in workflows with dummy data. The Form Filler extension automatically fills all questions on your page with data so you can quickly test even the lengthiest workflows.
Note: You can also use Data Manager to rerun different sets of data into your workflows.
Use the Back Button on the "Get Your Documents" page
After you do an initial test run (or open a recent one from Data Manager), keep the "Get Your Documents" page open in a tab on your browser. As you are making updates to your templates in this workflow, return to this tab and click "Back" then "Continue" to re-trigger the document generation. This will allow you to generate the updated version of your document, but with the data you already entered before. You can do this over and over again as you are testing small changes.
Refresh the Error Page to Regenerate Documents
If you get an error on a workflow, don't close the error page. Keep the page open. Then, make the necessary change to your documents/questions and press "Save". For example, adding the necessary variable or updating your documents. Your workflow will change in real time. Then, go back to the live workflow, refresh the page and regenerate the documents.
Clear or Bypass the Cache
A hard refresh clears your browser cache for a specific page, which forces it to load the most recent version of that page. This could include new scripts, styles or features.
Important: Clicking the "Refresh" arrow on your browser address bar is not a hard refresh. Here's how you can clear your cache through a hard refresh on any browser:
Google Chrome
- Windows users: hold down Ctrl and then press F5 on your keyboard
- Mac users: hold down Cmd and Shift and then press R on your keyboard
Firefox
- For Windows users: hold down Ctrl and then press F5 on your keyboard
- Mac users: hold down Cmd and Shift and then press R on your keyboard
Safari (Mac)
- Go to Safari > Empty Cache, or hit Opt + Cmd + E
- To refresh, click the refresh button on the address bar or press Cmd + R
Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge (Windows)
- Hold down Ctrl and then press F5 on your keyboard
